Meet Matt!
Matt is a nice guy who is starting dental school this fall! We are really excited for him!
Matt is just starting his Invisalign treatment with Dr. Fryer and we wanted to take you through his process so you can see how easy and effective the Invisalign process can be.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign straightens your teeth using a custom-made series of aligners created just for you! These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. They gradually and gently shift your teeth into place. You just pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is complete. You’ll achieve a great smile with little interference to your daily life.
Matt wanted a better smile and to correct that crossbite on the lower right. See how those lower teeth cover the top teeth? Well, they shouldn’t be doing that. The top teeth should cover a portion of the lower teeth there. After his orthodontic treatment, we will whiten his teeth to improve the discoloration that he has, too.
Step 1. In order to create customized removable aligners, we need to take records to send to the dental lab. Dr. Fryer is one of the ONLY Invisalign doctors in all of Cleveland who can take digital impressions for aligners. The traditional method is to take a series of impressions with goopy impression material to obtain records. That old method is outdated, messy, and uncomfortable for the patient.Dr. Fryer has the latest digital technology that allows him to simply take a series of photos to obtain the same records.
Here’s Sam starting the photo process with Matt.
Because he is starting dental school this fall, Matt has a great interest in all aspects ofhis treatment planning. Here you can see Matt reviewing some of his photos with Dr. Fryer.
Step 2. All of Matt’s digital records were sent to the Invisalign lab the day they were taken. About a week and a half later, his aligners arrived!
Step 3. Matt returned to pick up his first aligners. Here is a picture of Sam trying in Matt’s first aligner.
Here’s Matt on his way to a straighter smile. He’s wearing the aligners, but you can barely tell! We will continue to update this blog as Matt’s treatment progresses, so check back!
Early 2017 UPDATE!
Here’s the latest from Matt and his Invisalign treatment.
January 2018 Update on Matt!
Matt made it through his first semester in dental school! He came to visit us over his winter break so we could catch up on him and his Invisalign progress. Even though he’s been out of state, he’s still been able to continue his orthodontic treatment with Dr. Fryer. One of the cool things about Invisalign is that it’s a flexible orthodontic option. Because all of the aligner trays are pre-made, we were able to give Matt his aligners before he went off to school this fall-all he had to do was wear them while in college and then remember to switch them out every two weeks.
Here are the photos we took a few days ago. Those top teeth are now covering a bit of the bottom teeth on that side-the way they are supposed to! Notice that his smile is brighter, too. A few months back, when we sent Matt some additional aligners, we also included some whitening gel. He has a little more teeth whitening to do, but things are definitely much improved from when we started.
Matt will make a great dentist one day! He will be able to better understand what his patients will go through with treatment because he’s gone through it himself!
